HYROX Malaga 2026
Malaga brings HYROX to the Costa del Sol with a four-day event from April 16-19, 2026. One of Spain's fastest-growing cities, Malaga has transformed its cultural and sporting profile in recent years, and the HYROX event adds to a calendar that already includes major cycling and running events in the region.
April in Malaga means warm, dry conditions with temperatures typically around 18-22°C outdoors. The race itself is contested indoors, but athletes will appreciate the climate for training, warm-up runs, and the post-race recovery period. For northern European athletes, Malaga offers the added incentive of genuine spring warmth.

- The Cercanías C1 train runs from the airport to Malaga Centro-Alameda and Malaga-Maria Zambrano in approximately 12 minutes. Trains run every 20 minutes
- Taxis and ride-share services are available at the terminal and take around 15-20 minutes to the centre
By Train
- Malaga-Maria Zambrano is the main high-speed rail station, located on the western edge of the city centre
- Madrid Atocha to Malaga-Maria Zambrano: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes by AVE high-speed train. Frequent departures throughout the day
- Barcelona Sants to Malaga: approximately 5.5 hours by high-speed train via Madrid or directly on some services
- Seville to Malaga: approximately 2 hours by AVE
- The Cercanías commuter network connects Maria Zambrano to the airport and to the beach resort areas along the Costa del Sol
By Public Transport
- Malaga's city bus network (EMT) covers most of the urban area. Contactless payment is available on most routes
- The Cercanías C1 line runs east along the coast to Torremolinos, Benalmadena, and Fuengirola, useful if staying in resort areas
- Taxis in Malaga are metered, clean and well regulated. Rideshare apps (Uber, Cabify) also operate in the city
- The city centre is very walkable, and the port and historic areas are accessible on foot from most central hotels
By Car
- Malaga is accessed via the A-7 coastal motorway and the AP-46 from Madrid and Granada
- Parking can be tight in the city centre. Paid car parks are available near the FYCMA and the port area
- If staying outside the centre, driving to the venue may be more practical than public transport depending on exact location
Where to Stay
Malaga has a wide range of accommodation options at all price points, from budget hotels near the station to boutique hotels in the historic centre and beach resort hotels further along the coast.
- Historic centre (Soho / El Perchel) -- centrally located with access to the main sights, restaurants, and transport links. Wide choice of mid-range and boutique hotels
- Malaga-Maria Zambrano area -- practical for late arrivals or early departures. Several business hotels with easy train access to the airport
- Malagueta beach area -- east of the port, within walking distance of the historic centre. Popular with leisure visitors and with good beach access for post-race recovery
- Torremolinos / Benalmadena -- resort towns 10-15 km west along the coast. Often cheaper than central Malaga, but require the Cercanías train or car to access the event venue
- Budget chains (ibis, Novotel, Meliá) have central Malaga locations and represent good value for race weekends
Tip: April is the start of the busy season in Malaga. Hotel prices rise sharply as summer approaches, and the Easter holiday period can coincide with the race dates. Book accommodation as early as possible once the event is confirmed.
Training in Malaga
Malaga has a good selection of functional fitness and CrossFit facilities. The city's warm climate also makes outdoor training — running, cycling, and open-water swimming — a practical supplement to gym work.
- CrossFit affiliates -- Malaga has several established CrossFit boxes with equipment appropriate for HYROX training. Most offer guest day passes or week passes for visitors
- Functional fitness studios -- a growing number of studios across the city have invested in SkiErgs, rowers, sled tracks, and wall balls. Contact studios directly to confirm HYROX-specific equipment
- Commercial chains (McFIT, Holmes Place) are widely available but sled track access varies by location
- The warm climate makes Malaga excellent for heat acclimatisation if you are racing later in the spring in warmer European venues
Running Routes
- Malagueta promenade and beach -- a flat, paved path running along the beach from the port eastward. Excellent for tempo runs and widely used by local athletes year-round
- Parque de Málaga -- a green park between the port and the historic centre with shaded paths. Good for warm-up and recovery runs in the heat
- Monte Gibralfaro -- a hill above the Alcazaba with running trails and panoramic views of the city and sea. Challenging climb suitable for hill repeat sessions
- The Paseo Marítimo coastal path extends several kilometres east and west of the city centre along the Mediterranean, offering flat, traffic-free running at any distance

Race Day Tips
- Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start. Spanish HYROX events are well attended and registration queues build quickly
- Collect your race bib and timing chip at registration. Bring a printed or digital copy of your confirmation and a valid ID (passport or national ID card)
- April in Malaga can be warm, especially mid-afternoon. If you have a choice of wave time, morning slots are cooler. Even indoors, the hall can warm up significantly during busy afternoon waves
- Bring your own nutrition. Spanish HYROX events have vendors on site but queues build during peak times
- Spectators: Entry is typically free for supporters. Spanish crowds bring strong energy and the atmosphere at southern Spain events tends to be particularly lively
- Stay hydrated throughout the day. Malaga's warm spring climate accelerates pre-race sweat losses even before you start racing
- Plan post-race recovery around the city's excellent restaurants and beach bars. Malaga's Old Town is full of quality options at reasonable prices
