Stages SC3 Bike Fit Calculator

Get a starting saddle height and handlebar reach for a Stages SC3, in centimeters, from your height and inseam — for the studio bike behind Stages-powered cycling classes.

Methodology

Saddle height uses the LeMond method (Greg LeMond, 1987): saddle height = inseam × 0.883, measured from the center of the pedal at the bottom of the stroke to the top of the saddle. Handlebar reach is estimated from standing height × 0.42. This is the same general formula used across indoor bikes — Stages doesn't publish a cm conversion chart for the SC3's laser-etched reference marks, and no verified real-world calibration exists for this model yet (unlike our Technogym Group Cycle calculator, which is anchored to a plumb-line-verified fit), so treat the cm output as a starting reference rather than a Stages-specific spec. Use it to get close on the SC3's seat and handlebar posts, then confirm with the standard on-bike checks: a slight knee bend at the bottom of the pedal stroke, and the front of your kneecap tracking over the pedal axle when the crank is horizontal (3 o'clock).

FAQ

What saddle height should I use on a Stages SC3?

Multiply your inseam (floor to crotch, no shoes, in cm) by 0.883 — the LeMond method — for the distance from the center of the pedal at the bottom of the stroke to the top of the saddle. An 80 cm inseam gives roughly 70.6 cm. Set the SC3's seat post to the closest matching reference mark, then fine-tune: slight knee bend at the bottom of the stroke, no hip rocking.

How do I set up a Stages SC3 for my height?

Start with saddle height from the LeMond formula (inseam × 0.883), match it to the nearest laser-etched reference on the seat post, then check that the front of your kneecap sits directly over the pedal axle when the crank is horizontal (3 o'clock) — adjust fore/aft from there. Set the handlebars level with or slightly above the saddle.

Does this work for every Stages studio bike?

This targets the SC3 specifically. Reference marks and post geometry can vary slightly across Stages models, so use the cm output as a starting point and re-verify with the on-bike knee checks whenever you're on a bike you haven't personally set up before.

Is this an official Stages fit tool?

No — Stages doesn't publish its own fit formula or a cm-to-mark conversion for the SC3. This uses the same published cycling fit methodology (LeMond method) used across indoor bikes generally. It's a solid starting point, not an official Stages specification.

How accurate is this calculator?

The saddle-height formula (LeMond method) is well-established and typically accurate to within a couple of centimeters for most body types. The handlebar-reach estimate is a simpler proportional approximation. Both benefit from on-bike verification — check knee bend at the bottom of the stroke and kneecap-over-pedal at 3 o'clock once you're set up.

Results are estimates based on published cycling fit formulas (LeMond method) and standard indoor-cycling proportions, not a Stages-specific calibration. Use as a starting point, then fine-tune on the bike itself. Not medical or physical-therapy advice.
