HYROX Chiba 2026

Chiba brings HYROX to the Greater Tokyo Area for the first time in 2026 with a three-day event on August 7-9. Chiba sits directly east of Tokyo on Tokyo Bay, making it functionally the Tokyo-area HYROX race — its venue district, Makuhari, is roughly 30 minutes by train from central Tokyo. Narita International Airport is also nearby, making Chiba one of the most accessible HYROX venues in Asia.

Japan has a deep endurance and fitness culture: the country that produced world-class marathon runners, triathlon legends, and some of Asia's most serious CrossFit athletes. August in Chiba is hot and humid (30-35°C outside) but HYROX is an indoor event, so the racing environment will be controlled. Plan to explore Tokyo before or after — one of the world's great cities is on your doorstep.

Date & Venue

Makuhari Messe (幕張メッセ) in Mihama-ku, Chiba, is Japan's second-largest convention centre and has hosted major international sporting and fitness events. It is directly adjacent to Kaihimmakuhari station on the JR Keiyo Line and within walking distance from multiple hotels. Expected Ticket Prices

Ticket prices for HYROX Chiba have not yet been published. They will be listed in JPY on hyrox.com when registration opens. Getting There

By Air

• Narita International Airport (NRT) — Japan's main international gateway, located in Narita city in Chiba Prefecture, about 60 km from central Tokyo and approximately 40 km from Makuhari. One of Asia's busiest airports with direct flights from Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and beyond
• The JR Narita Express (N'EX) connects NRT to Tokyo Station in about 60 minutes, then JR Keiyo Line to Kaihimmakuhari in a further 30 minutes
• The Keisei Skyliner connects NRT to Ueno and Nippori stations in about 41 minutes — useful if staying in east Tokyo
• Airport limousine buses connect NRT directly to Makuhari Messe and Chiba city area — convenient for those with luggage heading directly to the venue area
• Haneda Airport (HND) — closer to central Tokyo (20-30 minutes), handling some international and most domestic flights. Shinkansen and metro connections to Tokyo, then JR Keiyo Line to Chiba

By Train (from Tokyo)

• JR Keiyo Line — the direct route from Tokyo Station to Kaihimmakuhari (Makuhari Messe) and Chiba Station. About 30 minutes to Kaihimmakuhari from Tokyo Station. Clean, reliable, and frequent
• JR Sobu-Chuo Line — connects central Tokyo (Shinjuku, Akihabara, Ochanomizu) to Chiba Station in 40-50 minutes. Good option from west or north Tokyo accommodation
• Shinkansen to Tokyo — if travelling from Osaka, Kyoto, or other cities, the Tokaido Shinkansen reaches Tokyo Station in 2.5-4 hours. Then transfer to the JR Keiyo Line for Chiba
• IC cards (Suica, Pasmo) work seamlessly across all JR and Tokyo Metro services — purchase at any station and top up as needed

By Taxi

• Taxis in Japan are metered, clean, and reliable but expensive. From central Tokyo to Makuhari by taxi is approximately JPY 6,000-10,000
• GO (formerly Japan Taxi) is Japan's main taxi-hailing app. Uber also operates in Japan, primarily in major cities
• Train is almost always faster and cheaper than taxis for Tokyo-to-Chiba journeys during standard hours

Where to Stay

You have two main strategies: stay in Makuhari/Chiba near the venue, or base yourself in central Tokyo with a short train commute on race day.

• Makuhari (Chiba) — the most convenient option if the venue is Makuhari Messe. APA Hotel Makuhari, Hilton Tokyo Bay, and ANA Holiday Inn Resort are all within walking distance of the venue. More expensive than Tokyo in some cases but unbeatable for logistics
• Chiba City Centre — Chiba Station area has a good selection of business hotels at lower prices than central Tokyo. About 15-20 minutes by JR Keiyo Line to Makuhari
• Tokyo — Shinjuku / Shibuya — good base for pre/post-race sightseeing with JR connections to Tokyo Station (transfer to Keiyo Line for Chiba). About 50-60 minutes total to Makuhari
• Tokyo — Nihonbashi / Hatchobori — very close to Tokyo Station with direct JR Keiyo Line access. About 25-30 minutes to Kaihimmakuhari. Practical choice for athletes prioritising race logistics
• Tokyo — Ueno / Asakusa — traditional Tokyo character, excellent food, and good connectivity via JR to Tokyo Station. About 45-55 minutes to Makuhari

Tip: August in Japan is peak summer travel season (Obon holidays are typically August 13-16). Book accommodation well in advance — weeks before and after Obon fill quickly with domestic travellers.

Training in Chiba & Tokyo

The Greater Tokyo Area has a well-developed CrossFit and functional fitness scene. Tokyo proper offers more options than Chiba, but the short commute makes Tokyo gyms completely accessible for training days before the race.

• CrossFit Chiba — established CrossFit affiliates in Chiba Prefecture with functional training equipment. Check affiliate finder on crossfit.com for current locations
• CrossFit Tokyo (multiple locations) — well-established affiliates in Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Minato. CrossFit 417 and CrossFit Sakura are popular with international athletes
• HYROX Japan community — the Japanese HYROX community is active on social media. Search for local training groups preparing for the Chiba event
• Anytime Fitness Japan — over 1,000 locations nationwide including multiple sites in Chiba and Tokyo. Good for treadmill and basic equipment access
• Many Japanese gyms are extremely well-maintained. Etiquette is important — follow all gym rules and be prepared to remove shoes in some facilities

Running Routes

• Makuhari Seaside Park — a large bayside park adjacent to Makuhari Messe with wide paths along Tokyo Bay. Flat and scenic, ideal for race-week easy runs
• Inage Seaside Park — another coastal park in Chiba with a 3 km promenade and views across Tokyo Bay. Popular with local runners
• Chiba Park — a central city park near Chiba Station with a running track and grass areas
• Tokyo — Imperial Palace Gardens — the 5 km loop around the Imperial Palace in central Tokyo is one of Japan's most famous running routes. Well maintained, flat, and always busy with runners
• Tokyo — Yoyogi Park / Meiji Shrine — a large forested park in Shibuya with trail paths. Popular with early morning runners and weekend running groups
• August running in Japan requires heat management. Run very early morning (5-7 AM) and carry water. Outdoor running in August midday is not advisable

Nearby HYROX Races

Japan's Chiba event is effectively isolated as the sole Japan HYROX race in mid-2026. Other regional options include:

• Osaka: January 30-31, 2026 (approximately 500 km west, about 2.5 hours by Tokaido Shinkansen)
• Incheon (Korea): May 15-17, 2026 (approximately 1,200 km west, about 2.5 hours by flight from NRT)
• Hong Kong: May 8-10, 2026 (approximately 2,900 km southwest, about 4 hours by flight)

Race Day Tips

• Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start. Japanese events are typically very well-organised, but registration for a debut Chiba event may have initial queuing
• The JR Keiyo Line is reliable, but have a backup plan (taxi, GO app) in case of service disruption on race morning
• Japanese race culture values punctuality and orderliness. Be respectful of queuing procedures and venue staff instructions
• Bring cash (Japanese Yen) — many vendors and some smaller food/drink outlets at Japanese events are cash-only
• August heat outside the venue is extreme. Pre-cool before your wave by staying in air-conditioned spaces as long as possible, and rehydrate thoroughly post-race
• Suica/Pasmo card: charge it before race day to avoid queuing for tickets at busy morning stations
• Post-race nutrition in Japan is world-class — ramen, sushi, and tonkatsu are outstanding recovery foods in the Chiba/Tokyo area
• Language: English signage at Makuhari Messe is generally good. Most HYROX race communication will be bilingual (Japanese/English)
