Perth is Australia's sunniest capital and one of the most isolated major cities in the world. Despite that, Western Australia's outdoor lifestyle and year-round sunshine have built a strong fitness community. HYROX Perth brings that community together for a weekend of competition on the Swan River waterfront.

The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre sits in Elizabeth Quay, within walking distance of the main train stations, the CBD, and the waterfront restaurants and bars. Perth's isolation means the local HYROX community is tight-knit, and the event has a more personal feel than the larger east coast races.

Getting There

By Air

• Perth Airport (PER) has domestic and international terminals, about 15 km east of the CBD
• Airport Line bus (380) connects the airport to Elizabeth Quay bus station
• Forrestfield-Airport Link is a train line connecting the airport to the CBD via the Midland line
• Taxi or rideshare runs approximately AUD $35-50 to the CBD, 20 minutes outside of peak hours
• Direct interstate flights from Sydney (4.5 hrs), Melbourne (4 hrs), Brisbane (5.5 hrs), Adelaide (3 hrs)

By Train/Transit

• Perth Underground Station is the closest, a 5-minute walk to PCEC along the river
• Elizabeth Quay Station on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines is adjacent to the venue
• Perth Busport is the major bus terminal next to the train station, connecting all metro areas
• Free CAT buses (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green) loop through the CBD at no cost
• Use a SmartRider card for trains, buses, and ferries

By Car

• Mitchell Freeway -- from the north, exit at Mounts Bay Road
• Kwinana Freeway -- from the south, exit at Mill Point Road or Mounts Bay Road
• Convention Centre car park and surrounding CBD parking stations are available
• Perth's compact CBD is easy to navigate, and parking is cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne

Where to Stay

Perth's CBD is compact and walkable. Almost anywhere in the city centre puts you within 15 minutes of the venue on foot.

• Elizabeth Quay / Barrack Street -- closest to the venue. DoubleTree, Ritz-Carlton, Adina Apartment Hotel
• CBD (Murray / Hay Street) is Perth's main shopping and dining area with a wide hotel selection
• Northbridge is Perth's entertainment and dining quarter, a 10-minute walk from PCEC, with more affordable options
• East Perth is a quieter riverside area with apartment-style accommodation at good value
• Fremantle is a port town 30 minutes south by train, worth considering if you want to explore beyond the CBD
• Perth accommodation is generally more affordable than east coast capitals. Book 2-3 weeks ahead

Perth's climate and active population mean plenty of training options. Gyms are well equipped, and year-round sunshine makes outdoor running a reliable part of any training plan.

• F45 has multiple Perth locations with circuit training that complements HYROX preparation

• Kings Park hosts outdoor bootcamp sessions at dawn and dusk

Running Routes

• Kings Park has trails through bushland and gardens with city and river views (3-8 km loops). The best running spot in Perth
• Swan River path is flat and sealed, running from Elizabeth Quay to South Perth and beyond (10+ km each way)
• Matilda Bay to Crawley is a riverside stretch near UWA, popular with runners and cyclists
• Bold Park has bushland trails near City Beach with gentle elevation changes
• Cottesloe Beach offers coastal running along the Indian Ocean on flat sand or paved paths

Perth is geographically distant from other Australian cities, but direct flights make combining races feasible:

• Melbourne -- date TBC; 4-hour flight
• Sydney -- July 1-5, 2026; about a 4.5-hour flight east
• Brisbane -- April 9-13, 2026, includes the APAC Championship; 5.5-hour flight
• Auckland -- January 29 - February 1, 2026; roughly 8 hours via a one-stop connection

Race Day Tips

• Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start time
• Collect your bib and timing chip at registration inside PCEC
• Use the dedicated warm-up zone -- the compact venue makes transitions smooth
• Weather -- Perth has a Mediterranean climate. Dress for warm days if the race falls in spring or autumn
• The WA sun is strong even in winter -- hydrate well before and during the event
• Bring your own gels, bars, and electrolytes
• Spectators get free entry. Elizabeth Quay is a good spot to wait between waves
• After the race, Elizabeth Quay has restaurants and bars steps from the finish line. Northbridge is a 10-minute walk for more options
