HYROX Budapest 2026

Budapest joins the HYROX calendar for the first time on 17 October 2026, at Hungexpo. That "first time" is the part worth circling: an inaugural race means a fresh leaderboard with no course history to chase, so a mid-pack time here lands higher on the city ranking than the same time would at a saturated event like London or Berlin. If you want a HYROX result that reads well, a brand-new venue is a quietly good place to spend a race entry.

The city helps too. Budapest is cheap by Western European standards, walkable along both banks of the Danube, and well connected by budget flights and overnight trains from Vienna, Munich and the wider region. It makes a strong race-and-weekend trip.

Expected Ticket Prices

HYROX had not published Budapest pricing at the time of writing. As a guide, recent European races have sat in these ranges — treat them as an estimate, not a quote:

Getting There

By Air

  • Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD) — the single international airport, about 16 km from the centre, with direct flights from across Europe and good low-cost coverage
  • The 100E airport bus runs direct to Deák Ferenc tér in the city centre; from there it is a short metro or tram hop towards Hungexpo
  • Vienna International (VIE) is a fallback — roughly 2.5 hours away by direct train if Budapest fares are high

By Train/Transit

  • Budapest's metro, tram and bus network is cheap and reliable; buy a travelcard for the weekend rather than single tickets
  • Hungexpo sits in eastern Pest and is reached via the M2 (red) metro plus a short bus or tram connection — allow 20–30 minutes from the centre
  • Keleti station is the main international rail gateway (direct trains from Vienna, Bratislava, Munich) and is itself close to Hungexpo

By Car

  • Hungexpo is just inside the M0 ring and easy to reach by road, with on-site and nearby parking
  • You will not need a car otherwise — central Budapest is faster on foot and by transit, and parking in the core is a hassle

Where to Stay

  • District V (Belváros) — the central core, walking distance to the Danube, Parliament and the main sights
  • District VII (Erzsébetváros) — the Jewish Quarter, the city's nightlife and ruin-bar hub, well priced and lively
  • Around Keleti station — handy if you are arriving by train and want a short hop to Hungexpo on race morning
  • Budapest is affordable, but a first-time HYROX weekend will pull demand — book 4–6 weeks ahead

Training in Budapest

Budapest has a growing functional-fitness scene, with CrossFit boxes and strength studios across Pest where you can get a sled, a ski-erg and wall-ball work in the week before the race. For running, the city is unusually good.

Running Routes

  • Margaret Island (Margitsziget) — the runner's island in the middle of the Danube, with a rubberised loop of about 5.3 km and no traffic; the obvious shakeout
  • Danube embankments — long, flat riverside paths on both the Buda and Pest sides, with the Parliament and Castle as scenery
  • Városliget (City Park) — a large park in eastern Pest, closer to Hungexpo, good for an easy pre-race jog

Nearby HYROX Races

Budapest sits in a dense pocket of the European calendar, so it pairs well with a second race or a longer trip:

  • Vienna — about 2.5 hours by direct train, the closest major HYROX
  • Bratislava — roughly 2.5 hours by train, an easy add-on
  • Prague — a short flight or an overnight train north
  • Berlin — a short flight for Germany's biggest HYROX field

Race Day Tips

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave to collect your bib and timing chip and settle in
  • Use the venue warm-up area — do not cool down waiting in the corral
  • Bring your own gels, snacks and a bottle; do not rely on finding your brand on site
  • Spectators get in free, and an exhibition hall gives clear sightlines across the stations
  • It is fully indoors, so the mid-October weather outside is irrelevant on race day — but pack a layer for before and after
  • English is widely spoken by younger staff and in the fitness scene; a few Hungarian pleasantries go a long way
