HYROX Vancouver 2026
Vancouver has mountains on one side and ocean on the other, and the people here train outdoors year-round because of it. The city has a large functional fitness community -- plenty of CrossFit boxes, running clubs, and an outdoor endurance culture that feeds directly into HYROX.
The Vancouver Convention Centre sits on the waterfront with views of the North Shore Mountains and Stanley Park. Hard to beat as a race day location. The city's public transit is good, downtown is walkable, and the mild Pacific climate keeps things comfortable.

Getting There
By Air
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR) -- Canada's second-busiest airport, on Sea Island about 12 km south of downtown. Hub for Air Canada and WestJet, with direct flights from across North America, Asia, and Europe
- The Canada Line SkyTrain runs direct from YVR to Waterfront Station in about 25 minutes (CA$4.55 one-way). Most reliable option, every few minutes
- Rideshare from YVR costs CA$25-40 to downtown depending on traffic
- Direct US flights from Seattle (1 hour), San Francisco (2.5 hours), Los Angeles (3 hours), and many other cities
By Train/Transit
- Waterfront Station (Expo and Canada Lines) is a 5-minute walk from the convention centre. SkyTrain connects to Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey and the wider Metro area
- The SeaBus crosses from North Vancouver to Waterfront Station in 12 minutes if you are staying on the North Shore
- VIA Rail -- the Canadian runs from Toronto to Vancouver (4 days). Not practical for a race trip, but worth knowing
- Amtrak Cascades runs from Seattle and Portland to Vancouver (4-5 hours from Seattle)
By Car
- From Seattle -- I-5 north to the Peace Arch or Pacific Highway border crossing, about 2.5-3 hours depending on border wait times
- From Calgary -- Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) west, about 10-11 hours through the Rockies
- Downtown Vancouver parking is limited and expensive (CA$6-10/hour). The convention centre has paid parking, but public transit is the better option
- US visitors crossing by car should allow extra time for the land border, especially on weekends. NEXUS/Global Entry cards speed things up
Where to Stay
- Downtown / Coal Harbour -- closest to the convention centre with waterfront hotels and mountain views. Walking distance to Stanley Park and Robson Street
- Gastown -- Vancouver's oldest neighborhood with cobblestone streets, independent restaurants, and boutique hotels. About 10 minutes walk to the venue
- Yaletown is a converted warehouse district with restaurants and bars, about 15 minutes walk south of the venue
- The West End sits between downtown and Stanley Park with more affordable options and good restaurant variety along Denman Street
- North Vancouver -- mountain views, connected to downtown by the 12-minute SeaBus. Lonsdale Quay has good options and a public market
- Vancouver hotel prices are among the highest in Canada. Book 6-8 weeks ahead for the best rates
Training in Vancouver
Vancouver has strong outdoor training infrastructure and a high concentration of CrossFit affiliates and specialty gyms. The mild Pacific climate lets you train outdoors comfortably year-round, though you will need rain gear from October through March.
- CrossFit 604 -- multiple locations across Vancouver with competitive programming
- CrossFit Vancouver -- one of the original affiliates in BC with experienced coaches
- Equinox in Coal Harbour has functional training floors and a full Concept2 fleet
- Anytime Fitness and Steve Nash Fitness have multiple locations with rowing machines and functional areas
Running Routes
- Stanley Park Seawall -- a 9 km paved loop around the park with ocean, mountain, and skyline views. Flat, well maintained, and the most popular running route in the city
- False Creek Seawall loops from Science World through Olympic Village and Granville Island. About 6 km, flat
- Pacific Spirit Regional Park has 73 km of forested trails in the university endowment lands on the west side. Moderate terrain, good for trail running
- The North Shore trails (Grouse Grind, Baden Powell) are steep mountain routes for serious hill conditioning. The Grouse Grind is 2.9 km with 853 m of elevation gain
- Central Valley Greenway -- 24 km paved path from Science World to New Westminster through east Vancouver. Flat and good for long runs

Weather Considerations
Vancouver has a mild oceanic climate. Winters rarely drop below freezing, and summers are warm and dry. However, the city receives significant rainfall from October through March. The convention centre is fully climate-controlled, but pack a rain jacket for getting around the city. Fall and spring events will see comfortable outdoor temperatures in the 45-60 F (7-15 C) range, with occasional rain.
Race Day Tips
- Arrive at least 90 minutes before your start time
- Pick up your bib and timing chip at the registration area
- Warm-up areas are provided inside the venue
- If it is raining, allow extra time for transit. SkyTrain is the most reliable option in any weather
- Bring your own gels, snacks, and electrolytes
- Spectators get free entry
- US visitors -- bring your passport. The Canadian dollar typically trades below the US dollar
- After the race, Gastown's restaurants and craft breweries are a short walk away. For seafood, try Granville Island; for sushi, Robson Street (Vancouver has some of the best Japanese food outside Japan)
