HYROX Rotterdam 2026

Rotterdam hosts HYROX for five days from April 15-19, 2026, making it one of the longer event windows on the European calendar. The Netherlands has a strong HYROX following, and Rotterdam provides a natural second Dutch stop alongside Amsterdam. With its modern architecture, superb cycling infrastructure and no-nonsense working-city culture, Rotterdam has a different energy to Amsterdam that many athletes find appealing.

Rotterdam's location at the centre of the Amsterdam-Utrecht-Mechelen triangle makes it an excellent hub for athletes planning a multi-race Dutch and Belgian season. Amsterdam is 25 minutes by train; Utrecht is 40 minutes. Brussels and Mechelen are under an hour.

Date & Venue

Ahoy Rotterdam in the Feyenoord neighbourhood (south Rotterdam) is the city's largest indoor venue, with flexible halls totalling over 60,000 m². Metro line B (Slinge direction) from Rotterdam Centraal reaches Ahoy in about 12 minutes. Check hyrox.com for the official venue confirmation.

Expected Ticket Prices

Prices are indicative until official pricing is confirmed. Dutch HYROX events are popular, particularly given Amsterdam's high uptake of the sport. Five days of racing creates a large number of wave slots, but Early Bird allocation still sells quickly. Register your interest on hyrox.com to be notified the moment tickets go live.

Getting There

By Air

• Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) -- the Netherlands' main international hub, 55 km north of Rotterdam. Direct trains run to Rotterdam Centraal every 15-30 minutes (35-40 minutes journey). Intercity Direct is faster but requires a supplement
• Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) -- a smaller airport with limited European routes (Wizz Air, some charter). Located 4 km northwest of Rotterdam Centraal. Bus connections to the centre
• Brussels Airport (BRU) is 90 km south and reachable by Thalys or IC train via Antwerp to Rotterdam (about 70 minutes)
• For most international athletes, flying into Schiphol and taking the direct train to Rotterdam is the most efficient route

By Train

• Rotterdam Centraal -- one of Europe's most impressive modern stations. High-speed Thalys from Paris (2.5h), Eurostar connection via Brussels from London (~4h). Direct Intercity to Amsterdam (25 min), Utrecht (40 min), Eindhoven (1h), and The Hague (25 min)
• NS Intercity trains run every 15 minutes to Amsterdam throughout the day. Booking in advance on ns.nl gives lower fares
• From Germany, direct ICE trains connect Frankfurt (~3h) and Cologne (~2.5h) to Rotterdam

By Public Transport

• Rotterdam's metro has 5 lines (A-E). Line B from Centraal serves Ahoy (Zuidplein stop) in about 12 minutes
• OV-chipkaart is the national smart card for all Dutch public transport. Alternatively, contactless bank cards are accepted on many metro, bus and tram lines
• The RET app covers all Rotterdam metro, bus and tram services
• Rotterdam's cycling infrastructure is excellent. OV-Fiets rental bikes are available at Rotterdam Centraal for €4.20/24h with a Dutch public transport account

By Car

• Rotterdam is on the A15 and A20 motorways, with excellent motorway access from across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany
• The Ahoy complex has substantial parking. Pre-book for event days as it fills up early
• Rotterdam has no city-centre congestion charge, unlike London or Stockholm. But parking costs in the centre are significant

Where to Stay

Rotterdam offers good value accommodation compared to Amsterdam, with similar quality at lower prices. April is a popular month for international visitors and the tulip season.

• City centre (Centrum, Wijnhaven, Cool) -- walking distance from Rotterdam Centraal. Modern hotels including nhow Rotterdam, Marriott, Holiday Inn and various boutique options
• Kop van Zuid -- the regenerated south bank across the Erasmus Bridge. Home to the Hotel New York (the former Holland America Line headquarters) and several modern business hotels. 15 minutes from Ahoy by metro
• Near Ahoy (Feyenoord, Charlois) -- limited hotel options in the immediate vicinity, but budget accommodation is available. The metro connection from Centraal is fast enough that central accommodation is typically preferred
• For athletes combining Rotterdam with Amsterdam (75 km, 25 min by train), staying in either city and commuting for the event is a practical option

Tip: April in the Netherlands is Keukenhof season. Accommodation across the entire region fills quickly during tulip season weekends. Book as early as possible for April 15-19.

Training in Rotterdam

Rotterdam has a strong and growing functional fitness scene. The city's working-class, no-nonsense sporting culture translates into serious, well-equipped training facilities.

• CrossFit Rotterdam and multiple affiliated boxes offer drop-in sessions. The Feyenoord and Centrum areas have several options. SkiErg and rowing availability is good at most boxes
• Basic-Fit -- the Netherlands' largest budget gym chain has multiple Rotterdam locations with rowing machines and functional training areas
• TRAINMORE and Anytime Fitness -- mid-range chains with good equipment across the city
• Several premium functional training studios in the Wijnhaven and Kop van Zuid areas have invested in HYROX-relevant kit

Running Routes

• Kralingse Plas -- a lake in east Rotterdam surrounded by a 5 km flat running path. One of the city's most popular routes. Easy to reach by tram (Kralingse Zoom)
• Maas Riverfront (Boompjes) -- the north bank of the River Maas offers several kilometres of riverside running with skyline views of Rotterdam's iconic modern architecture
• Het Park -- a small park near the Euromast with good paths for shorter efforts. Centrally located
• The Rotte River trail heads north through green suburbs -- good for longer runs away from traffic
• Rotterdam's flat terrain makes it excellent for pace work. The cycling lanes can often be used for running in quieter periods

Race Day Tips

• Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave. Five-day events have more athletes and a longer registration queue on day one than shorter events
• Collect your race bib and timing chip at registration. Bring your confirmation email and a valid ID
• April in Rotterdam can be unpredictable weather-wise -- 10-15°C with wind and occasional rain is common. Ahoy will be controlled indoors, but layer up for travel
• Bring your own nutrition. Venue catering is available but racing nutrition should always be what you have tested in training
• Spectators: free entry. Dutch HYROX crowds are knowledgeable and vocal. Feyenoord fans used to Ahoy will know how to make noise
• Bag drop is available. Use it to leave your warm layers while racing
• Post-race, Rotterdam Centraal area and Wijnhaven have excellent options for food and drinks
