HYROX Oslo 2026

Oslo joins the HYROX calendar in 2026 with a three-day event from September 25-27. Norway's capital is a natural fit for HYROX: the country has one of the strongest per-capita endurance sports cultures in the world, a deep tradition of functional outdoor training, and an active gym and CrossFit community that has been building towards competitive HYROX participation for several years.

Late September in Oslo means mild temperatures (12-16°C), reliable conditions for indoor racing and long daylight hours. The city is compact, walkable and very easy to navigate, making it one of the least stressful race-trip logistics in Europe.

Oslo Spektrum (capacity 9,000) and the larger Telenor Arena in Baerum (20,000) are the strongest candidates given their scale. Both have hosted major international events and have good public transport connections. The Oslo Exhibition Centre (Norges Varemesse) in Lillestrom is another possibility for a multi-day format. Getting There

By Air

  • Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) -- Norway's main international hub, 48 km north of the city. Direct flights from London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Stockholm and most European capitals. Also served from New York, Boston and other long-haul destinations via SAS and Norwegian
  • Flytoget Airport Express -- the fastest way into the city. Runs from OSL to Oslo S (Central Station) in 20 minutes, every 10 minutes. Slightly more expensive than the NSB regional train
  • NSB regional train (re-branded Vy) -- runs the same route in 23 minutes at lower cost. Buy tickets via the Vy app or at station machines
  • Oslo Torp (TRF) and Oslo Rygge (RYG) are further out and served by budget carriers. Transfer time to the city is significantly longer

By Train

  • Oslo S (Oslo Sentralstasjon) -- the main rail hub. Intercity services run to Bergen (6.5h), Trondheim (6.5h), Stavanger (8h) and Gothenburg (4h, Sweden)
  • International services connect to Stockholm (~5.5h) and Copenhagen (~7.5h), though flying is often faster for these routes
  • From Oslo S, the T-bane metro serves all main areas of the city. Lines 1-5 radiate out from the central stations

By Public Transport

  • Oslo's T-bane (metro), tram and bus network is excellent. The Ruter transport authority covers all modes. Use the Ruter app for journey planning and ticket purchase
  • The Oslo Pass (1-, 2- or 3-day) covers unlimited public transport and free entry to most museums. Good value for a multi-day race trip
  • Trams run through the city centre and connect the west end with the east
  • City bikes (Bysykkel) are available in warmer months for casual cycling across the flat city centre

By Car

  • Oslo operates a toll ring with automatic payment. Have a credit card registered for automated payment if renting a car
  • Parking in central Oslo is expensive and limited. Public transport is the strongly preferred option for race day
  • Electric vehicles have historically had toll exemptions in Norway, though these are being phased back. Check current rules if driving an EV

Where to Stay

Oslo accommodation is expensive by European standards. Booking early is essential, and looking slightly outside the city centre can save significantly.

  • Central Oslo (Gronland, Grunerlogka, Sentrum) -- the most connected areas with the best restaurant and bar access. Hotel prices reflect this. Radisson, Thon Hotels and Comfort Hotels offer well-located mid-range options
  • Frogner / Majorstuen -- slightly upmarket west-central area. Quieter than Gronland. Tram connections to Oslo S
  • Lillestrom -- a suburb 15 minutes by train from Oslo S. Much cheaper hotel options and easy rail access. If the venue is the Oslo Exhibition Centre in Lillestrom, this is the obvious choice
  • Airbnb and short-term rentals can offer better value for groups and couples versus hotel pricing in Oslo

Tip: Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Budget at least €200+ per night for a mid-range hotel in a central location. Lillestrom accommodation can cost half that with easy rail connections.

Training in Oslo

Oslo has one of the strongest functional fitness cultures in Scandinavia. CrossFit boxes, HYROX-specific training facilities and well-equipped gyms are readily available.

  • CrossFit Oslo -- one of Norway's oldest CrossFit affiliates. Well-equipped with SkiErgs, rowing machines and sled tracks. Drop-in sessions available
  • SATS / Elixia -- the dominant commercial gym chain in Norway. Multiple central Oslo locations with good cardio equipment. SATS is now a single brand after the merger of the two chains
  • EVO Fitness -- premium gym with functional training focus. Several Oslo locations with quality equipment
  • Oslo CrossFit Scene -- beyond the main affiliate, several boxes in Grunerlokka, Majorstuen and Lillestrom offer drop-in training for visiting athletes

Running Routes

  • Frognerparken (Vigeland Park) -- Oslo's main park with wide gravel paths and grass areas. Popular with local runners. A 4-5 km loop is easily assembled through the park and surrounding streets
  • Akerselva River Trail -- a 8 km trail along the river from the fjord to Maridalsvannet lake. Gentle elevation, good surfaces, through some of Oslo's most interesting neighbourhoods
  • Oslomarka (Oslo Forests) -- accessible from the end of several T-bane lines, the Marka forests offer hundreds of kilometres of running and trail routes. The Nordmarka area is a world-class trail running destination
  • The Oslofjord waterfront path (Langoyene to Bygdoy and beyond) offers flat coastal running with sea views

Nearby HYROX Races

Oslo is ideally placed for Scandinavian athletes building a multi-race season:

  • Stockholm (World Championship): HYROX Stockholm 2026 -- June 18-21 (approximately 450 km southeast, about 6 hours by train or 1 hour by flight)
  • Helsinki: HYROX Helsinki 2026 -- May 9-10 and December 18-20 (about 1.5 hours by direct flight from OSL)
  • Copenhagen: HYROX Copenhagen 2026 -- check dates (approximately 600 km south, about 7.5 hours by train or 1 hour by flight)

Race Day Tips

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave. Allow extra time if using public transport for the first time in Oslo
  • Collect your race bib and timing chip at registration. Bring a valid ID. Scandinavian venues are well-organised but registration queues still build up
  • September in Oslo can bring rain. Bring waterproof layers for travel to the venue, though racing conditions indoors will be well-controlled
  • Bring your own nutrition. Norwegian food at venues is excellent but expensive. Bring tested gels and bars from home
  • Spectators: free entry. Norwegian sports fans are knowledgeable and respectful. The atmosphere will be focused and energetic
  • Dress warmly for after the race. September evenings in Oslo drop to 8-12°C. Pack a warm layer in your bag drop
  • Post-race, Oslo's Akerselva neighbourhood has excellent options for food and recovery
