HYROX Osaka 2026

HYROX Osaka opens the Japan 2026 race season on January 30-31, bringing one of the world's fastest-growing fitness events to the Kansai region. Osaka is Japan's second-largest metropolitan area and its culinary and sporting cultures are both world class. The city has hosted numerous international sporting events and has the indoor venue infrastructure required for a full HYROX race setup.

Japan's HYROX community has grown rapidly since the format first arrived in the country. Expect strong participation from local functional fitness athletes, CrossFit communities and endurance sports enthusiasts from across the Kansai region, including Kyoto, Kobe and Nara.

Date & Venue

INTEX Osaka is the city's primary international exhibition centre, located on Sakishima Island in the Suminoe area with ferry and subway connections. If the venue is confirmed there, the site is accessible from central Osaka in 20-30 minutes by subway and ferry. Monitor the official HYROX website and HYROX Japan social channels for venue confirmation.

Getting There

By Air (International)

• Kansai International Airport (KIX) -- the main international gateway for Osaka. Direct flights from London (13-14 hours), Amsterdam (12 hours), Frankfurt (12 hours), Dubai (10 hours), Singapore (7 hours), Sydney (10 hours) and major US hubs
• The Haruka express train runs from KIX to Shin-Osaka in 50 minutes and to Tennoji in 30 minutes. IC cards (ICOCA or Suica) simplify all onward travel
• The Nankai Rapid Rail runs from KIX to Namba station in central Osaka in around 40 minutes -- convenient if your hotel is in the southern city area

By Air (Domestic)

• Itami Airport (ITM) -- handles domestic flights from Tokyo (Haneda), Sapporo, Fukuoka and other Japanese cities. 30 minutes from central Osaka by Airport Bus or monorail
• JAL and ANA operate frequent Tokyo-Osaka routes throughout the day

By Shinkansen

• From Tokyo: Nozomi Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka in 2 hours 30 minutes. The fastest and most comfortable option for Japanese domestic travel
• From Hiroshima: 1 hour to Shin-Osaka by Nozomi. From Kyoto: 15 minutes. From Kobe (Shin-Kobe): 25 minutes
• Book Shinkansen tickets in advance via JR Pass (if valid) or at JR Green counters and online. January is a busy travel period in Japan

Getting Around Osaka

• Osaka Metro (subway) is clean, punctual and covers the entire city. Load an IC card at any station for seamless travel
• Taxis are widely available but more expensive than public transit for short trips
• Cycling is popular in Osaka; the city has a large flat central area with dedicated lanes

Where to Stay

Osaka has an enormous range of accommodation from international hotel brands to traditional ryokan inns. Prices are generally competitive by global city standards.

• Namba / Shinsaibashi -- the entertainment and shopping hub of Osaka. Central for most Metro lines. Numerous hotels from budget capsule options to upscale international brands. Excellent for pre- and post-race food and recovery
• Umeda / Osaka Station area -- the northern business and shopping district. Excellent transport hub for Shinkansen connections and bus services. JR Hotels, Hilton Osaka, and numerous business hotels
• Shin-Osaka -- ideal if arriving late by Shinkansen. Cluster of business hotels within walking distance of the station
• Tennoji area is convenient for KIX airport arrivals and has a wide range of affordable accommodation
• January is not peak tourist season in Osaka (unlike cherry blossom in April) — hotel prices should be reasonable, but book early if your race entry is confirmed

Training in Osaka

Osaka has a developed CrossFit and functional fitness community with an increasing number of HYROX-specific training setups since the sport arrived in Japan.

• CrossFit Osaka affiliates -- multiple boxes operate across the city offering functional fitness programming. Several incorporate HYROX-specific station work including SkiErg, sled push/pull and wall ball. Search for "クロスフィット大阪" for local listings
• Gold's Gym Osaka -- large-format commercial gym with a wide range of cardio equipment including rowing ergometers relevant to HYROX conditioning
• KONAMI Sports Club and RIZAP operate commercial fitness chains across Osaka with modern equipment and personal training options
• Municipal sports centres (市民プール/体育館) are affordable and widespread; many have indoor tracks, rowing machines and strength equipment
• Personal training studios specialising in athletic performance have grown in the Shinsaibashi and Namba areas

Running Routes

• Osaka Castle Park (大阪城公園) -- a 5 km perimeter road around the castle moat, flat and extremely popular with runners. Early morning is best to avoid crowds. Central location near Morinomiya Metro station
• Nakanoshima Park and riverside -- a flat island park between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers in the city centre. 3-4 km loop, good for easy runs
• The Yodo River banks north of the city provide longer flat routes extending 10+ km with good surfaces
• Tennoji Park and Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine areas in southern Osaka offer less busy training routes away from the central tourist crowds
• Seaside Momochi in nearby Kobe (45 minutes by train) has flat coastal paths popular with the local triathlon and running community

Osaka connects easily to other Japanese HYROX events via the Shinkansen network:

• Tokyo: check hyrox.com for 2026 date — 2 hours 30 minutes by Nozomi Shinkansen. Japan's capital city typically hosts one of the larger HYROX Japan events
• Chiba: August 7-9, 2026 — approximately 500 km from Osaka (3 hours by Shinkansen to Tokyo then regional), in the Greater Tokyo area
• International race options: Singapore (April 3-5), Bangkok (March 20-22) and Seoul are within 3-7 hours by flight from Kansai International Airport for athletes planning an Asia race circuit

Race Day Tips

• Japan HYROX events are extremely well organised. Arrive on time and follow marshal instructions carefully -- Japanese event management is efficient and expects punctuality
• Registration and check-in will require your confirmation number and photo ID. Bring both in digital and physical form
• January in Osaka is cold (4-10°C). The venue interior will warm up with activity, but arrive dressed warmly and have a bag drop plan for your extra layers
• Carry an IC card (Suica or ICOCA) loaded with sufficient balance for transport. Cash and IC cards cover virtually all transit in Osaka
• Spectators: HYROX Japan events are spectator-friendly. Having someone track your race and cheer at multiple stations is possible with good venue layouts
• Post-race: Osaka's takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) and ramen scene is world-renowned. The Dotonbori area is a short taxi or Metro ride from most central venues for a well-earned meal
• Convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Lawson) are everywhere in Osaka and stock solid pre-race and post-race nutrition at low cost
