HYROX Karlsruhe 2026

HYROX arrives in Karlsruhe for the first time in 2026, with an October 1-4 race that adds a new city to the German HYROX map. Karlsruhe is a university town and technology hub in Baden-Württemberg, positioned at the crossroads of Germany, France and Switzerland — making it geographically one of the most accessible HYROX events in Central Europe.

The city sits 80 km from Strasbourg, 80 km from Stuttgart, and 150 km from Frankfurt. Athletes from the Rhine valley, south-west Germany and the Alsace region of France have rarely had a HYROX event this close to home. The October timing also falls in a productive part of the autumn race season, between the European summer build-up and the December season-finisher events.

Date & Venue

Messe Karlsruhe is one of the most modern exhibition centres in south-west Germany, with 45,000 square metres of hall space and state-of-the-art logistics facilities. It is directly connected to the Rheinhafen S-Bahn station and accessible from the A5 motorway. The venue regularly hosts automotive, engineering and science trade shows and has the scale for a full HYROX event.

Pricing will be confirmed on hyrox.com at registration. As a first-year event, wave capacity may be smaller than established cities -- register as soon as Early Bird tickets open.

Getting There

By Air

• Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) -- approximately 20 km south-west in Söllingen. Ryanair, Wizz Air and Corendon operate routes from UK, Ireland, Eastern Europe and Mediterranean destinations. Bus and taxi connect to Karlsruhe in 30-40 minutes
• Stuttgart Airport (STR) is approximately 90 km south-east (1 hour by car, 1.5 hours by train via Stuttgart Hbf). A better option for intercontinental arrivals given its larger network
• Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is 150 km north (1 hour 15 minutes by ICE from Karlsruhe Hbf). Germany's main international hub and the largest selection of direct long-haul flights
• EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) is 100 km south on the French-Swiss border, a useful option for Swiss and French arrivals

By Train

• Karlsruhe Hbf is a major ICE stop on the Frankfurt-Basel-Zurich corridor. Direct ICE services from Frankfurt (45 min), Mannheim (15 min), Stuttgart (30 min), Munich (1h45), Basel (45 min), Zurich (1h30)
• TGV connections run from Paris Est to Strasbourg (2h15), from where a German RE train reaches Karlsruhe in 30 minutes
• From Messe Karlsruhe (Rheinstetten): S-Bahn S2 connects from Karlsruhe Hbf to Rheinstetten Messe station in approximately 20 minutes
• The Karlsruhe tram (S-Bahn-Stadtbahn hybrid) is one of the most extensive urban rail networks in Germany -- easy to navigate across the city from the Hbf

By Car

• Karlsruhe sits at the A5 (north-south, Frankfurt to Basel) and A8 (east-west, Pforzheim to Mannheim) motorway junction -- one of the most important road crossings in south-west Germany
• Messe Karlsruhe is directly accessible from the A5 Autobahn (exit Karlsruhe-Mitte or Karlsruhe-Süd, then B36 west toward Rheinstetten)
• From Frankfurt: 1.5 hours via A5 south. From Stuttgart: 1 hour via A8 west. From Strasbourg: 1 hour via A35/E35 and A5 north
• Karlsruhe's Umweltzone covers the inner city. If driving to Messe Rheinstetten you are outside the zone, but carry your Umweltplakette anyway if passing through
• Messe parking is large and free for most exhibition events; pre-check the race guide for parking arrangements

Where to Stay

Karlsruhe is a medium-sized city with a solid but not overwhelming hotel selection. October is a busy month for regional business events -- book once you confirm your race entry.

• Near Karlsruhe Hbf / city centre -- the main hotel zone. NH Hotel Karlsruhe, Novotel, B&B Hotel, Ibis Styles and budget chains all cluster here. S-Bahn S2 connects to Messe in 20 minutes
• Rheinstetten / near Messe Karlsruhe -- limited hotels, mostly business-oriented, but the shortest race-morning transfer. Check availability near the Messe once the venue is confirmed
• Ettlingen (10 km south) is a quieter alternative with good transport into Karlsruhe via regional rail
• If Karlsruhe options are limited, Baden-Baden is 30 km south and a very appealing overnight destination with spa culture and upscale accommodation
• Pforzheim (30 km east) and Bruchsal (20 km north) are commutable with direct rail to Karlsruhe Hbf

Karlsruhe is a university city with an active and diverse fitness community. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) brings a large population of young, active athletes to the city, supporting a strong sporting culture.

• CrossFit Karlsruhe -- local CrossFit affiliates provide functional fitness coaching with programming applicable to HYROX preparation, including SkiErg and sled work for athletes targeting the October race
• McFIT Karlsruhe -- affordable chain gym with multiple city locations and rowing ergometers for endurance work
• FitX operates in Karlsruhe with open-gym access to functional training equipment
• KIT Sport (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology sport centre) operates extensive facilities for students and the public, including athletics tracks and strength equipment
• Bädergesellschaft Karlsruhe runs several large municipal pools and sport centres with fitness facilities across the city

Running Routes

• Schlossgarten (Palace Garden) -- the landscaped park extending north from Karlsruhe Schloss (Palace). Flat, with well-maintained paths. The fan-shaped street layout of Karlsruhe makes the Schlossgarten a natural central training hub
• Schwarzwaldhochstraße / Durlacher Wald -- forested trails east of the city for trail running and terrain variety. The Turmberg hill in Durlach offers short sharp ascents for power work
• The Rhine dyke paths west of the city provide flat, traffic-free long runs along the river on the German side toward Rheinstetten and Wörth
• Hardtwald (north of the city) is a large pine forest popular with runners and cyclists for longer runs away from traffic
• The Kriegsstraße and Ludwig-Erhard-Allee in the city centre have running-friendly boulevards suitable for tempo interval work

• Frankfurt: December 10-13, 2026 -- approximately 150 km north (45 minutes by ICE). A natural season-finisher following the October Karlsruhe event
• Stuttgart: check hyrox.com -- approximately 80 km south-east (30 minutes by ICE). Stuttgart has featured on recent HYROX calendars and would be the closest major German city for a second race
• Strasbourg (France): check hyrox.com -- 80 km west (30 minutes by regional train via Appenweier). A short cross-border trip if a French Alsace race appears on the calendar
• Cologne: April 16-19, 2026 -- approximately 230 km north (1h30 by ICE). The FIBO event makes a logical spring target to build toward the October Karlsruhe race
• Zurich (Switzerland): check hyrox.com -- approximately 190 km south (1h30 by ICE to Zurich Hbf). Switzerland occasionally hosts HYROX events within reach from Karlsruhe

Race Day Tips

• Arrive 90 minutes before your wave. First-year events sometimes have longer-than-expected registration and logistics queues as organisers calibrate the setup
• Bring your confirmation email (digital or printed) and photo ID to registration. Collect your bib and timing chip before heading to the warm-up area
• October in Karlsruhe is autumnal -- average temperatures of 10-15°C. The venue interior warms up once competition is underway, but bring a warm layer for the pre-race period
• Messe Rheinstetten is slightly outside the city -- if using public transport, check the S2 timetable for early morning services on race weekend. The first trains may not run as frequently as mid-day services
• Spectators: Messe hall events give supporters good access to move between workout stations. Bring comfortable shoes and a printed start-list to track your athlete
• Post-race, head into central Karlsruhe for the city's excellent restaurant scene, particularly around the Karlsruhe Durlach quarter and the old town near the Marktplatz. Baden wine and regional cuisine are well worth the trip
