HYROX Gdansk 2026

Gdansk joins Poland's 2026 HYROX calendar with a two-day event on October 10-11. One of northern Europe's most historic port cities, Gdansk sits on the Baltic coast at the mouth of the Vistula river and offers a compelling combination of Hanseatic old-town architecture, strong sporting culture, and modern event infrastructure shared with neighbouring Gdynia and Sopot in the Tri-City region.

October racing in Poland means crisp autumn conditions outdoors, ideal for training runs along the Baltic coast. Inside, the race is contested in a climate-controlled arena. Poland's HYROX community has grown significantly in recent years and Gdansk, as the third largest city in the country and the economic capital of the north, is a natural addition to the Polish race circuit alongside Warsaw and Poznan.

Date & Venue

Getting There

By Air

• Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) -- approximately 12 km west of Gdansk city centre. Direct European connections via Ryanair, Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, and others. Routes include London Stansted (2h20m), Amsterdam (2h), Frankfurt (1h45m), and Dublin. SKM commuter rail connects the airport terminal to Gdansk Glowny in around 25 minutes. Buses also serve the route
• October is shoulder season; flight prices are typically lower than summer. Ryanair and Wizz Air routes to GDN are usually cost-effective from UK and western European cities

By Train

• Gdansk Glowny is the main railway station, a beautiful neogothic building in the heart of the city. PKP Intercity and regional trains serve the station
• Warsaw to Gdansk: approximately 2 hours 45 minutes by PKP Intercity Pendolino express. Frequent departures throughout the day
• Poznan to Gdansk: approximately 3 hours by intercity train
• Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Gdansk: approximately 5.5 hours by IC train (changes may be required). Overnight options are available
• SKM commuter rail connects Gdansk Glowny with Sopot, Gdynia, and the airport on a single line. Very useful for navigating the Tri-City

By Public Transport

• Gdansk has a good bus and tram network (ZKM) covering the urban area. Tram 2, 3, and 7 serve the main areas of the city
• The SKM commuter rail is the most practical link between Gdansk, Sopot, and Gdynia — buy integrated tickets covering both ZKM and SKM to simplify travel
• Bolt taxis operate widely in the Tri-City and represent good value. Useful for race-day transport if the venue is outside the main transport corridor

By Car

• Gdansk is accessed via the A1 motorway from Warsaw and the S7 expressway. The S6 and S3 connect west toward Szczecin and Germany
• Warsaw to Gdansk by car: approximately 3.5-4 hours via the A1
• Berlin to Gdansk by car: approximately 5.5 hours via the A11 and Polish motorways
• Parking at major venues (ERGO Arena, Amber Expo) is extensive. Confirm event-specific arrangements once the venue is announced

Where to Stay

Gdansk's Old Town and the Tri-City area offer a wide range of accommodation. October is off-peak season, which means lower prices and more availability than summer.

• Gdansk Old Town (Stare Miasto) -- the historic centre with the Long Market, St Mary's Church, and the waterfront Motlawa quay. Boutique hotels and apartments in converted historic buildings. Walking distance to the station and central transport links
• Wrzeszcz / Oliwa area -- residential neighbourhoods west of the Old Town with good transport links via SKM rail and buses. More practical and less touristy than the Old Town, with competitive accommodation prices
• Sopot -- a famous spa resort town between Gdansk and Gdynia, 12 km north. Quieter in October than summer. Direct SKM connections to Gdansk in around 15 minutes
• Gdynia -- a modern port city immediately north of Sopot. Business hotel cluster near the ferry terminals and the ERGO Arena. Practical if the venue is in Gdynia rather than Gdansk
• Budget accommodation options (ibis, B&B, Puro) are available in Gdansk and represent good value in October

Tip: October in Gdansk is much quieter than summer. Prices drop significantly after September. The Old Town is beautiful in autumn colours and far less crowded — a significant advantage for a race weekend when you want to move efficiently and recover well.

Training in Gdansk

Gdansk and the Tri-City region have a well-developed fitness community. Several facilities in the area are appropriate for HYROX training.

• CrossFit affiliates -- Gdansk has several established CrossFit boxes with full HYROX-relevant equipment. Most offer guest day passes for visiting athletes. Check Facebook groups for the local HYROX community for current recommendations
• Functional fitness studios -- a growing number of studios in the Tri-City region have invested in sled tracks, SkiErgs, and rowing machines. Contact studios directly to confirm equipment availability
• Commercial gym chains (Fitness World, Fabryka Formy, Zdrofit) have multiple locations across the Tri-City but sled track access is not guaranteed. Confirm before visiting
• The ERGO Arena sports complex and other public facilities may offer additional training options around the event period

Running Routes

• Sopot beach promenade and Molo Pier -- the famous 511m pier and beach path provide a flat, scenic running route along the Baltic. Best in early morning before tourist activity begins. Approximately 15 minutes by SKM from Gdansk
• Trójmiejski Landscape Park trails -- a large forest park running through the hills between the Tri-City and the inland areas. Trail running of all distances and difficulties. Access points from Oliwa and Sopot
• Motlawa riverbank -- flat path along the historic waterfront in central Gdansk. Good for easy recovery runs between the Old Town cranes
• The Baltic beach at Brzezno, about 5 km north of the Old Town by tram, has a long promenade suitable for longer flat runs

Race Day Tips

• Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start. Two-day events with concentrated wave schedules require efficient time management for registration and warm-up
• Collect your race bib and timing chip at registration. Bring a printed or digital copy of your confirmation and a valid ID
• October in Gdansk can be cold and wet outdoors. Pack warm and waterproof clothing for travel to the venue, and dry kit for after the race
• Poland has a competitive HYROX field. Warsaw events regularly draw strong performance from local athletes. Expect a similar level in Gdansk
• Bring your own nutrition. Polish HYROX events have vendors on site but the two-day format means peak demand is concentrated. Prepare your own gels and snacks
• Spectators: Entry is typically free for supporters. Polish fitness event crowds are enthusiastic and knowledgeable
• If travelling from western Europe, factor in the time difference (CET +1 for most of October until clocks change). Sunday early-morning waves can be challenging if you arrived on Saturday and adjusted late
