Frankfurt is Germany's financial capital and one of the best-connected cities in Europe. The combination of Frankfurt Airport (FRA) — a major intercontinental hub — the central ICE high-speed rail network, and Messe Frankfurt — one of the largest exhibition centres in the world — makes it a natural venue for a flagship HYROX event.

The December 10-13 dates place Frankfurt at the very end of the 2026 European season, making it an ideal option for athletes looking for a late-year race, a final chance to post a qualifying time, or a season closer before the holidays. The four-day format is reserved for HYROX's highest-demand locations and signals a large-scale event with multiple waves per day. Frankfurt's compact city centre, excellent public transport and walkable Sachsenhausen neighbourhood make race weekend logistics straightforward.

Date & Venue

Messe Frankfurt spans over 590,000 square metres of exhibition space across the western edge of the city centre. It hosts world-famous trade fairs throughout the year and is purpose-built for large-scale indoor events. The HYROX course will be set up inside one of the main exhibition halls, providing a climate-controlled racing environment regardless of December weather outside. Expected Ticket Prices

Getting There

By Air

• Frankfurt Airport (FRA) — Germany's largest and busiest international airport, with direct flights from across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. FRA is a Lufthansa hub and Star Alliance gateway
• From FRA to Messe Frankfurt: S-Bahn S8 or S9, approximately 15 minutes, under 5 EUR. Trains run every 15 minutes
• Taxi from the airport to the Messe costs approximately 20-30 EUR, about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic
• Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) is not in Frankfurt — it is 120 km away near the Mosel region and used mainly by budget airlines. Use FRA if possible

By Train

• Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof — one of Germany's busiest stations, a 15-minute walk or one S-Bahn stop from Messe Frankfurt
• ICE connections: Berlin (4h), Munich (3.5h), Cologne (1h), Hamburg (3.5h), Stuttgart (1.5h), Dusseldorf (1.5h), Paris (4h via TGV), Amsterdam (4h)
• S-Bahn Messe station — directly at the exhibition grounds, served by S3, S4, S5, S6. The fastest option from the Hauptbahnhof
• U-Bahn: U4 to Festhalle/Messe station, direct from the city centre and Sachsenhausen
• Tram: Lines 16 and 17 also stop near the Messe

By Car

• A5 / A3 — exit Frankfurt-Messe or Westkreuz. The Autobahn connects Frankfurt to all major German cities without speed limits on many sections
• Messe Frankfurt has multi-storey car parks (P0-P9), approximately 15-20 EUR per day
• Frankfurt city traffic is congested during rush hours — the S-Bahn from the Hauptbahnhof or airport is faster and less stressful on event days

Where to Stay

• Westend / Gallus — hotels within walking distance of Messe Frankfurt. Business-oriented area with good restaurants and cafes along Bockenheimer Landstrasse
• Hauptbahnhof area — budget to mid-range hotels near the central station, one S-Bahn stop from the venue. The neighbourhood has improved significantly and offers the best value for money close to the Messe
• Sachsenhausen — south of the Main river, the most characterful neighbourhood in Frankfurt with Apfelwein pubs, restaurants and the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment). 15 minutes to the Messe by U-Bahn
• Bornheim / Nordend — residential neighbourhoods with independent shops and restaurants, 20 minutes by U-Bahn to the venue
• Book 4-6 weeks ahead. Frankfurt is a convention city — check for overlapping trade fairs in December that could inflate hotel prices. The Christmas market season also increases demand

Tip: December in Frankfurt means the famous Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) on Roemerberg. If you are racing on a Thursday or Friday, extend your stay through the weekend for mulled wine, Bratwurst and the full Frankfurt Christmas atmosphere.

Training in Frankfurt

Frankfurt has a solid fitness infrastructure with CrossFit boxes, functional training studios and large chain gyms across the city. The Main river banks and the Stadtwald forest south of the city provide excellent year-round running terrain.

• McFIT / John Reed — affordable chain gyms with SkiErgs and rowing machines at most locations

Running Routes

• Mainufer (Main riverbank) — flat paths along both sides of the river, 5-15 km depending on how far you go. The most popular running route in Frankfurt, with views of the skyline and Sachsenhausen on opposite banks
• Stadtwald (City Forest) — over 5,000 hectares of forest south of the city with well-marked trails, mixed surfaces, and loops from 5 to 25 km. The go-to location for long runs and trail running
• Grueneburgpark — central park in the Westend, ideal for short intervals, recovery runs and pre-race shakeouts. Close to the Messe
• Nidda valley — follows the Nidda river north through green suburbs. Flat, quiet, and well-surfaced — excellent for steady-state runs of 10-20 km
• Lohrberg — vineyard hill in the northeast with panoramic views of the Frankfurt skyline. Useful for hill repeats and strength-endurance work

Germany has the densest HYROX calendar of any country. From Frankfurt, several events are within easy reach by ICE train:

• Karlsruhe — October 1-4, approximately 1 hour south by ICE
• Cologne — April 16-19, approximately 1 hour north by ICE
• Dusseldorf — November 11-15, approximately 1.5 hours by ICE
• Berlin — May 22-31, approximately 4 hours by ICE
• Hamburg — September 17-20, approximately 3.5 hours by ICE

Race Day Tips

• Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave start time. Messe Frankfurt is enormous — give yourself time to find the right hall and complete check-in
• Transport: Take the S-Bahn to Messe station or U4 to Festhalle/Messe. Parking is expensive and stressful on event days
• December weather: Expect temperatures around 0-5 degrees Celsius outside. Bring warm layers for before and after your race. The hall itself will be warm once racing starts
• Bring your own gels, energy bars and water. On-site nutrition options vary between events
• Spectators get in free. The Messe halls offer good viewing positions for multiple stations
• English is widely spoken in Frankfurt, especially around the Messe and city centre. You will have no language issues
• Post-race: Apfelwein (apple cider) and Schnitzel in Sachsenhausen, a walk along the illuminated Main riverbank, or the Frankfurt Christmas market on Roemerberg if it is still running in mid-December
