HYROX Beijing 2026
Beijing hosts two HYROX events in 2026 — March 21-22 and September 12-13 — giving China's capital city a spring and an autumn window. As the political and cultural capital of China and a city defined by its extraordinary sporting history (host of the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics), Beijing brings significant prestige to the HYROX China calendar.
HYROX China has seen rapid growth since the sport was introduced to the country. Beijing events draw competitive athletes from the capital's large fitness community as well as athletes travelling from other major Chinese cities. International athletes visiting China on race circuits will find Beijing's two-event calendar a compelling reason to schedule a trip.

- Beijing Metro has 27 lines covering the entire city. Load a transit card (Beijing One-Card or temporary visitor card) at any station for convenient access
- DiDi (the Chinese equivalent of Uber) is the easiest way to book taxis and private rides in Beijing. The international version of the app works with foreign cards in most cases
- Traffic in Beijing can be severe, especially on ring roads during morning rush. Allow extra time for car travel to the venue on race day
- A valid VPN may be required to access certain apps and booking platforms from outside mainland China -- set this up before travelling
Where to Stay
Beijing has international hotel brands across all price points. For March and September (both popular travel months), book early.
- Chaoyang district -- Beijing's international business and diplomatic district. Excellent metro connectivity, many international hotel brands (Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental, Sheraton). Close to the CBD and to Olympic Park
- Dongcheng district (near Tiananmen/Forbidden City) -- the historic centre. Tourist-friendly with good metro access. Higher prices for proximity to major landmarks
- Olympic Park area (Chaoyang north) -- close to major venues like CNCC. Hyatt, Pullman, Novotel and budget options. Convenient if the race is held near the Olympic precinct
- Sanlitun is the expat neighbourhood with good restaurants and nightlife, popular with international visitors
- Budget accommodation in Beijing includes well-reviewed youth hostels in Gulou, Houhai and the Drum Tower area of Dongcheng for those on tighter budgets
- Book via international platforms (Booking.com, Agoda) in advance; March events coincide with the tail of Chinese New Year travel season, and September is Golden Week-adjacent
Training in Beijing
Beijing has a large and growing functional fitness community driven by its young, international professional population and Olympic sporting legacy.
- CrossFit Beijing affiliates -- multiple boxes in the city, particularly in the Chaoyang and Sanlitun areas. Programming relevant to HYROX prep including SkiErg, sled and rowing work for athletes targeting the March or September events
- Keep Fit, Supermonkey (超级猩猩) and similar chain boutique studios operate citywide with functional training classes, HIIT programming and open gym time
- Gold's Gym Beijing -- commercial gym presence in multiple districts with standard cardio and strength equipment
- Olympic Sports Centre facilities near the Bird's Nest have extensive athletics and conditioning infrastructure available for public use
- University sport centres (particularly at Peking University and Tsinghua University) sometimes allow community access with appropriate registration
Running Routes
- Olympic Forest Park (奥林匹克森林公园) -- a large green space in the north of the city with a 10 km perimeter loop used by the Beijing running community. Excellent flat training terrain near the Olympic venues
- Chaoyang Park -- 5 km loop in the central-east of the city, popular for morning runs and interval work
- The Lianhuachi (Lotus Lake) park loop in Fengtai is a flat 3-4 km route popular with western Beijing runners
- Ming Tomb reservoir trails in the north-west of the city offer trail running and longer distance routes outside the urban core
- Fragrant Hills Park (Xiangshan) in the far north-west provides steep hill trails with excellent views of the city for athletes wanting terrain variation in preparation for a flat HYROX course
Nearby HYROX Races
Beijing sits within China's excellent high-speed rail network, putting multiple HYROX events within a day's travel:
- Wuhan: April 11, 2026 -- approximately 1,100 km south (4.5 hours by G-class HSR from Beijing West). The March Beijing event can pair naturally with a Wuhan trip in April
- Shanghai: May 16-17, 2026 -- approximately 1,300 km south (4.5 hours by Fuxing Hao). A well-timed follow-up in the spring season
- Tianjin: no HYROX race confirmed, but just 130 km south-east (30 minutes by HSR). A useful day-trip base for athletes who want to explore beyond Beijing on race week
- For international race tourism, Tokyo (3.5 hours by flight), Singapore (6.5 hours) and Seoul (2 hours by flight) all have HYROX presence in 2026
Race Day Tips
- Arrive at least 90 minutes before your wave. Large Chinese sporting events are well organised but can have complex registration processes, especially for international athletes
- Carry both digital and printed copies of your registration and ID. Chinese event entry sometimes requires official documents in physical form
- March weather in Beijing is cold and dry (average 3-10°C, low humidity). September is warm and more comfortable (average 18-25°C). Dress accordingly for travel to the venue
- Download offline maps (maps.me or Google Maps offline where accessible via VPN) and a translation app before arriving. English signage at venues varies
- Bring your own race nutrition from home if you have specific gel and bar preferences. International sports nutrition products may not be easily available locally in your preferred brands
- Spectators: have a communication plan for support crew, especially if any language barrier could complicate meeting inside a large venue
- Post-race, Beijing's Sanlitun, Gulou and Nanluoguxiang areas offer excellent food, from Peking duck restaurants to international cuisine
