I follow this space closely and mostly critically. A few of the general ideas below have made it into my own log at some point — fasting windows, cold exposure, sleep timing, all of them popularized far beyond any one person — and the ones that survived are on the kill list page under "what survives," which is a shorter list than I expected it to be. Most of these ten I just watch, because watching them is how you find out what a few million people are about to try next.
So this is a list of reach, not a list of people I agree with. The filter I apply to all of it is the pillar's filter: does a change show up in numbers somebody logged. Ordered roughly by how much of the current conversation each one sets.
1. Bryan Johnson
Focus: whole-body longevity protocol, measured obsessively. Best known for Blueprint, a heavily instrumented and reportedly seven-figure annual regimen, and more recently for pushing "Don't Die" as a movement rather than a product. He publishes more raw personal data than anyone else on this list, which I respect on its own terms. Plenty of aging researchers regard the claims built on top of that data as running well ahead of the evidence, and an n-of-1 with hundreds of simultaneous interventions cannot tell you which one did anything.
2. Dave Asprey
Focus: the commercial category itself. He popularized the word biohacking and the butter-in-coffee thing, and built an events-and-products ecosystem around it. His nutritional claims have drawn sustained criticism from dietitians as poorly evidenced. His actual influence is structural: he made this a market, and most of the supplement stacks people show me trace back to that market.
3. Peter Attia
Focus: longevity medicine, with an emphasis on VO2 max, strength and apolipoprotein B as things you can measure and act on. Best known for Outlive and for arguing that the interesting question is healthspan, not lifespan. He is one of the few here who routinely says the evidence is weak when the evidence is weak, and his framing — pick metrics that predict outcomes decades out — is close to how I try to run my own training log.
4. Andrew Huberman
Focus: neuroscience-flavoured daily protocols. A Stanford neuroscientist whose podcast turned morning light, sleep timing and breathing drills into mainstream habits. Also the clearest case study in the failure mode of this genre: scientists have criticized him for presenting low-quality or animal-only evidence with more confidence than it supports, particularly around supplements. The distribution is enormous, so the errors distribute too.
5. Rhonda Patrick
Focus: micronutrients, sauna, and reading the primary literature out loud. Best known for FoundMyFitness and for popularizing heat exposure and sulforaphane. She is the one I find most useful to listen to at length, because she tends to cite the study and describe its limits, which makes it possible to disagree with her specifically rather than vaguely.
6. David Sinclair
Focus: the biology of aging — sirtuins, NAD+ precursors, information theory of aging. Best known for Lifespan and for personally taking NMN and resveratrol. This is contested territory: other researchers, Charles Brenner most publicly, dispute that resveratrol activates sirtuins as claimed, large pharmaceutical programs in that direction did not produce results, and the mouse-to-human step has not been demonstrated. Treat the mechanism story as an open argument.
7. Valter Longo
Focus: fasting and diet as levers on aging. The USC researcher behind the fasting-mimicking diet — a five-day low-calorie, low-protein pattern meant to produce fasting-like effects without a water fast. Unlike most of this list, the protocol has run through actual clinical trials, which report changes in metabolic markers and biological-age estimates. Biological-age estimates are themselves a moving target, so read the endpoint before the headline.
8. Matthew Walker
Focus: sleep. Why We Sleep did more than anything else to make sleep duration a thing people track rather than a thing they apologize for. The book has been criticized in detail — Alexey Guzey's essay is the well-known one — for factual and interpretive errors, and Walker has responded to some of it. The general direction survives the critique better than individual numbers in it do.
9. Wim Hof
Focus: cold exposure and a specific breathing method. He is the reason ice baths appear in ordinary gyms. The controlled work here is genuinely interesting and genuinely narrow: trained practitioners have shown altered stress-hormone and inflammatory responses in an endotoxin challenge. That is much smaller than the health claims that have grown around it, and the breathing drills carry a real blackout risk in water. Not a casual experiment.
10. Tim Ferriss
Focus: self-experimentation as a method. The 4-Hour Body is where a lot of people first encountered the idea of running yourself as an n-of-1 trial — baseline, hypothesis, single variable, assessment. The specific protocols in it have aged unevenly. The method is the durable part, and it is the part this whole pillar is built on.
What I actually take from the list
Three of these ten regularly show their working. The rest are worth watching for what is about to become popular, which is a different job. The recurring tell is confident language attached to a mouse study or a single small trial, and once you notice it you cannot stop noticing it.
My own experience is that the interesting result is almost always the one that disappoints. Four dose increases that bought nothing, a supplement stack now paused in full, a lean-mass question my data still refuses to answer cleanly — none of that makes a good podcast episode, and all of it is why I trust the log over the protocol sheet. If someone on this list makes a claim you want to act on, the honest version of following them is running it as one variable and writing down what happened.
