HYROX Training in New York

New York in 2026 is hosting what HYROX is calling the largest event in North American history — 50,000 athletes across two weekends at Pier 76 in Hudson River Park. That's a different scale than any previous US HYROX. The race is also moving venue: previous NYC HYROX events were at the Javits Center; the 2026 edition is outdoors-adjacent on Pier 76, with NYU Langone Health as the title sponsor.

The New York gym scene doesn't need much introduction. CrossFit NYC has been running since 2005, Solace has built a reputation for serious coaching, and Brooklyn has a dozen boxes with real HYROX programming. What New York does NOT have is cheap training. Expect to pay $250-400 per month for a CrossFit membership — the highest in the US. The trade-off is that the gym density means you're usually within a 15-minute walk of at least three options.

CrossFit Boxes and HYROX Gyms

NYC's HYROX-friendly gyms spread across Manhattan and Brooklyn, with a few standouts in Queens. Pricing runs $250-400 per month for CrossFit; drop-ins $35-55. These numbers are not negotiable — this is what HYROX training costs in New York.

  • CrossFit NYC: One of the oldest affiliates in the country (opened 2005), with multiple Manhattan locations including Union Square, Lower Manhattan and Chelsea. Strong HYROX programming alongside regular CrossFit classes. Good choice for Manhattan-based athletes.
  • Solace New York (Chelsea): Premium performance gym with serious coaching and a competitive culture. Runs HYROX-specific classes in the build-up to the NYC race. Closer to the Pier 76 venue than most Manhattan options.
  • CrossFit South Brooklyn: Long-running Brooklyn affiliate with a strong competitive community. Full HYROX station setup. Good for athletes based in Park Slope, Gowanus or Windsor Terrace.
  • ICE NYC (Brooklyn): Industry City affiliate with a competition focus. HYROX programming and a serious training culture.
  • Brick NYC: Multiple locations across NYC (including Chelsea and Brooklyn) with HYROX-friendly programming. Higher price point than most but the equipment and coaching justify it.
  • CrossFit Hell's Kitchen: Manhattan west side box — the closest serious CrossFit affiliate to the 2026 Pier 76 race venue. Worth knowing if you're staying in Midtown West for the race weekend.

Beyond the boxes, Equinox and Life Time sit in the premium-club category at $250-400/month. They have rowers, SkiErgs, treadmills and proper functional areas, but no sleds or competition-height wall balls. Life Time Sky at Hudson Yards is about 10 minutes' walk from Pier 76 and has the most extensive functional setup of any NYC club — a reasonable base for race weekend training if you don't want to deal with the box culture.

ClassPass is worth mentioning for travellers. $100-200/month gives flexible access to multiple boutique studios and some gyms, though you won't get consistent HYROX-specific programming through it. It's fine for rowing and treadmill work; use a box drop-in for the station simulation.

Running Routes

New York's running is genuinely excellent — enough variety that you never have to repeat a session on the same route if you don't want to.

  • Central Park 6-mile loop: The iconic NYC run. Rolling hills, paved, well-maintained, popular with every running club in the city. The inner loop is 1.58 miles flat. For HYROX athletes the full loop is good for tempo and long runs; the inner loop handles 1km repeats. Avoid the main loop on weekend mornings unless you like dodging cyclists.
  • Hudson River Greenway: Flat paved path running the entire length of the west side of Manhattan, directly past Pier 76. For the 2026 race venue this is the warm-up route. From Battery Park to the George Washington Bridge is about 13 miles one way, so you can pick any distance you want.
  • East River Path: Parallel route on the east side — shorter and choppier than the Hudson Greenway but a good alternative when the west side is crowded. Covers the East Village, Lower East Side and up to East Harlem.
  • Brooklyn Bridge Park: Paved paths along the East River in Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights, with constant views of the Manhattan skyline. Good for tempo runs and shorter interval work. Connect it with the bridges (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg) for longer sessions.
  • Prospect Park (Brooklyn): 3.3-mile loop, flatter and less crowded than Central Park. Standard HYROX training loop for Brooklyn-based athletes.

HYROX New York 2026 at Pier 76

Pier 76 is on the west side of Manhattan at 408 12th Avenue West, in the Hudson River Park. It's an active transformation project — previously the NYPD tow pound, now being redeveloped as public park space. The HYROX setup will use the pier itself and adjacent park space. Views of the Hudson, Weehawken across the river, the Intrepid Museum a few blocks south. Very different atmosphere from a convention centre.

The 2026 race runs across two weekends: May 28-June 1 and June 3-7. Eight days of racing total, 50,000 athletes — HYROX is calling it the biggest event in North American history. NYU Langone Health is the title sponsor.

Getting to Pier 76:

  • Subway: 7 train to Hudson Yards (34th St & 11th Ave) is closest — about a 5-minute walk south to Pier 76. The A/C/E to 34th St Penn Station is 10 minutes' walk west. The 1/2/3 to Times Square is a longer walk (15+ minutes) but has more train lines.
  • Ferry: NY Waterway ferries serve Pier 79 (just south of Pier 76) from multiple New Jersey terminals. Useful if you're staying in Weehawken or Hoboken.
  • Taxi / rideshare: Straightforward to anywhere in Manhattan; expect delays during wave-start windows.

For accommodation, Hudson Yards itself is the closest to Pier 76 but expensive. Midtown West (Hell's Kitchen) gives you a shorter walk and cheaper hotels. Chelsea is a 20-minute walk and has better food. Avoid Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn hotels unless you're willing to commute 45 minutes to the venue on race morning.

New York Weather for Race Week

Late May and early June in New York is typically 18-25°C, with occasional humid days in the high 20s. The 2026 race timing is near-perfect for outdoor-adjacent events — warm enough that you're not fighting the cold, cool enough that air handling at a pier venue stays manageable. Build-up training in March and April handles the transition from winter: outdoor running becomes viable again in late March, reliably good from mid-April.

Summer proper (July, August) is hot and humid — 30°C+ with high dew points. If you're training through summer for a later race, morning sessions before 8am or move to indoor cardio. Winter (December-February) is cold enough to force treadmill and box work for most outdoor runners.
